Worms will eat your garbage!
(Thursday, 03 July 2008) Written by greeniac40021
More specifically, worms will eat many forms of food waste, digesting it and producing a rich compost that your garden will love. Of course you can always stick to the regular old method of composting of letting your organic wastes sit and rot over time (the key word being time -- it can take up to a year for compost piles that are just left to sit and rot on their own to be ready for use), but vermicomposting (just the fancy way of referring to composting with worms) is faster and (I think) more fun.

The first thing to do if you think you might be interested in vermicomposting is to do a little research.
Greeniacs provides a thorough composting guide (see: http://www.greeniacs.com/GreeniacsGuides/262-Make-Your-Own-Compost/View-details.html)

A couple other good websites to see are:

http://www.epa.gov/composting/vermi.htm

In addition to being a fun hobby, composting (vermicomposting and otherwise) will divert wastes from landfills, which is important, especially since more and more valuable land space is being taken up by housing our rotting trash.
