The State of the Environment Photo Project
(Friday, 27 January 2012) Written by greeniac5271907
Almost 40 years ago the US EPA commissioned "Documerica," a project to document the state of the environment. The pictures in the initial project are stunning; they document the United States in when the EPA was still a very young agency. This was before most federal environmental regulations were passed, before widespread recycling, before the popularity of energy-efficient homes and before the controversy over "green energy" erupted.

The EPA plans to display the historic photos in an exposition in March 2013. But first, EPA will put on a traveling show with the photos it collects in the current "State of the Environment" project, where anyone can submit photos of their surroundings through Flickr.
