The Slow Moving Climate and Energy Bill
(Wednesday, 10 March 2010) Written by greeniac1217
A large number of people gathered at the White House yesterday to discuss the slow moving Climate and Energy Bill. This bill has been a low priority recently, mostly due to the hype around Healthcare legislation. There has also been a lot of debate as to its name--the Democrats want to leave it as the Climate and Energy Bill, while the Republicans want to leave out the "climate" part. Fortunately, President Obama is on the side of climate, and believes climate and energy go hand in hand.

So why don't the Republicans want climate in the bill? Well, it's an issue of cap and trade. Opponents of cap and trade believe that not only is there little public support for it, but also that an emissions tax would hurt the economy.

I think it's time for polluters to be fined. The bill needs 60 votes to pass (as the Climate and Energy Bill), so hopefully its supporters will be able to do some convincing in the near future.
