| One more step to being eco-friendly | |||

| I like to frequently browse the internet in search of new ways to be eco-friendly. Since I love being creative, sometimes I’ll try to find out specific things to recycle that are lying around in my house. A few months ago, my dad was throwing away wire hangers and I had an amazing idea. I decided to make an earring tree out of them so I did not have to constantly dig through my jewelry box to find matching earrings (how many of us are still tormented by this?). All you need is 4 or 5 wire hangers, some needle nose pliers and something to use as a base. I decided to use some store bought clay I had lying around the house. It took me about 2 hours to make the wire bend the way I wanted it to but it came out very nice. It looks something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKeqtef8Z3M . They can be great for gifts for others or for personal use and you are reusing products that would normally be thrown away. All with the added bonus of making your life a little more organized. I found this idea so useful that I made a necklace tree using a glass candle jar to hold the clay. | |||

| The following text is a translated excerpt of an article by Heike Buchter, that has recently been published in the German weekly newspaper Die Zeit. Just in case you are interested in reading a bit about how people elsewhere perceive environmentalism in the USA - as a superficial fashion trend, a substantial movement, or a late but inevitable development?
