Reuse rather than Recycling 04/29/2008 Karma: 0
I came across an interesting article about a new kind of paper and printer that PARC and Xerox is developing which allows for the reuse of the paper rather than recycling. Designed for documents that people only need for a day, such as menu specials and google maps, this technology considers the fact that it takes more energy to reuse something than to recycle it.
The paper can be reused hundreds of times.
The article does not discuss whether the new technology requires hazardous chemicals, or if production of the special paper and printer will take more energy than conventional ones.
Who knows if this technology will catch on, or if it will produce long run energy savings.
But it is a cute idea, and emphasizes the importance of reuse.

This sounds like a very good idea, I hope it works out. I feel like so much paper is wasted on a daily basis. I personally use the backside of old documents when I need to print something that doesn't necessarily need to be turned in for anything, such as directions somewhere or personal notes for school lectures and readings. Just a little bit of effort from everyone goes a long way.
