SXSW recycling 03/08/2010 Karma: 1
Have you heard of the event South by Southwest (or SXSW) that takes place annually in Austin, TX? It's a conference/festival that showcases original music, independent films, and emerging technologies. Thousands of people come to the event from all over the world, so you can only imagine the carbon footprint created by the event. The conference has a pretty good break down on their website detailing what they are doing to make the whole event more sustainable. Check it out here: http://2010.sxsw.com/sustainability

I know a lot of people who attend the event annually that show a great concern for the lack of recycling at the event. I have done a fair amount of research trying to investigate the recycling codes but have yet to find anything. It saddens me to think that an event who hosts thousands of people every year does not have a thorough recycling standard. Or maybe I have yet to find it?

I've never heard of SXSW before! It definitely sounds exciting. You're right, I can't find anything about recycling either. I'm guessing a lot of the events don't have recycling because the hotel/bar that they're at doesn't actually offer recycling normally. That's certainly no excuse, but it kind of makes sense because so many events happen in so many different locations.
