The Greeniac Nation is thrilled to be part of the Green Village at the SF Festival of Sail, being held Friday, July 25th through Sunday July 27th located on the Port of San Francisco’s Pier 30/32. Events for the Festival of Sail start on Wednesday, July 23rd and culminate on Sunday. Greeniacs™ Research Intern Description
 
 
Do you feel comfortable wearing many hats and enjoy constant change? Do you have a quick wit, great work ethic, and serious gumption? A bright and energized INTERNET RESEARCH INTERN is needed for a new "green" focused website, www.greeniacs.com™. This internship requires no specific prior work experience, however, we are looking for candidates with advanced internet research skills as well as an interest in and some experience with contemporary environmental issues.
 
This position reports to a project manager/editor.  It is purely a research position with an environmental issues focus. A typical day for an intern will include searching the web for information relevant to the green movement and categorizing that information. Assignments will be given in manageable pieces, and interns will be required to meet deadlines that will allow the editor to evaluate their work.  As ability is proven, more work will be assigned.  Strong writing skills are essential for this position, as interns may eventually be asked to generate content based on research findings.  For any aspiring writers and journalists,this is a great way to get exposure!
  
Interns typically work about 10 hours a week.  However, the option for more hours is available for those who wish to do more.  Assignments will be given and received remotely by phone and/or email.  Occasional travel to the Los Altos, CA office will be required for local interns only.  Participation in local events where applicable may also be required, such as staffing the GreeniacsTM booth at the Green Festivals. This internship will pay $12 per hour.

Our office atmosphere is casual and friendly, but we work hard, especially when deadlines approach, and we trust our people to act on their good judgment. For this reason, we are specific in our needs.

* Proficiency using Microsoft Office software products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe software products
* Mastery of the English language, both spoken and written, including excellent verbal communication skills and uncompromising writing ability with impeccable attention to grammar and spelling
* Reliability and a positive attitude
* Ability to work productively in a home environment
* Capacity to handle multiple projects with little supervision 
* Effective organizational skills
* Be able to handle deadlines reliably
* Cooperation
* Flexibility
* A good sense of humor
* Have an extremely high attention to detail 
* A high school diploma. A college degree is preferred, but not required.

Greeniacs.com is pleased and proud to announce the appointment of Jennifer R. Berson, Esq. as it’s President and General Counsel effective May 1, 2008.  Ms. Berson is a graduate of Stanford University and Vanderbilt University Law School.  She previously served Greeniacs.com as Vice President and General Counsel, coming onboard to launch the Greeniac Nation in April 2007.  Prior to the launch of Greeniacs.com, Ms. Berson was a Litigation Associate located in the San Francisco, CA office of the international law firm Foley & Lardner LLP.  Greeniacs.com is excited to take advantage of Ms. Berson’s experience and intellect in Greeniacs.com’s successful march to becoming the iconic green website.

Greeniacs.com wants to spread the word about going green in a non-threatening and non-judgmental way.  We won’t scold you if you drive an SUV because at Greeniacs.com we believe that people are only responsible to do what is within their means to help the environment.  We don’t expect people to completely change their lifestyles but instead encourage them to become educated and take whatever steps they can towards living a more sustainable life.  If you’re interested in learning about what you can do to green your lifestyle in a fun, friendly, and encouraging environment, then Greeniacs.com is for you! 

Greeniacs.com publishes original content on the site in the form of articles (GreeniacsArticles) and guides (GreeniacsGuides), descriptions of relevant green links (GreeniacsLinks), listing green events (GreeniacsEvents Calendar), and green business and organization listings (GreeniacsDirectory).  In addition, we research and respond to questions presented by our members in the GreeniacsBlogs and GreeniacsForums. 

The Content Manager contributes to this content him/herself in addition to overseeing a team of interns, who work remotely and communicate mainly via email, who are expected to write articles and guides, research and respond to questions posed in the blogs and forums, create new Polls and Green Facts, and add listings to the GreeniacsDirectory.

The Content Manager is expected to remain updated on current eco-friendly/green/sustainability trends in order to publish material on Greeniacs.com that is relevant and cutting edge as well as provide interns topics for writing assignments.  The Content Manager provides interns with concrete assignments with time frames, edits intern submissions, and reviews intern timesheets for accuracy before submitting the timesheets to our Chief Financial Officer for payroll.  The Content Manager works closely with the Greeniacs.com Webmaster and web developers in addition to other Greeniacs team members.  He or she is also responsible for answering the Greeniacs phone line in the office and occasionally responding to the Customer Service email account requests.  Participation in local green events to represent Greeniacs.com is also a function of the Content Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:

* BA/BS degree; Environmental Studies, English, Journalism, Writing majors/minors and involvement in Environmental clubs, groups, etc. preferred.
* Proficiency using Microsoft Office software products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe software products.
* Familiarity with all forms of social media on the web and internet search engines.
* Mastery of the English language, both spoken and written, including excellent verbal communication skills and uncompromising writing ability with impeccable attention to grammar and spelling.

While Greeniacs.com does have a resident technology expert, applicants with good technical knowledge are preferred.  Elementary understanding of HTML is desirable, but not required. 
* Supervisory experience with staff and/or interns is a plus.
