I think it is worth it-but planning is important! I tend to gather my groceries from various different sources-so I do not end up spending $200 on dinner for the evening.

I think you can usually find the best, cheapest produce at the local farmers market.

Go to a place like Trader Joe's for cheap (and organic) staples like pastas, cereals, grains, jams, peanut butter, nuts, beans, etc for a good value.

And then I usually slurge on the delicacies at Whole Foods: cheese, chocolate, beer/wine, prepared foods, etc.

In my opinion, Whole Foods is worth it 90% of the time-but you can definitely find good deals on good food elsewhere.
