Solar-Powered Products 10/26/2008 Karma: 0
I like the fact that so many products are becoming solar, but I question whether some of these products really understand the point of energy conservation. I mean, it's not really conserving energy when you use that solar energy for relatively useless purposes. For example, this solar-powered wallpaper (http://www.treehugger.com/files/2004/12/solarpowered_wa.php) might make your wall really light up, but it seems much less effective than some simple light bulbs.

However, there are cases when solar does seem pretty cool, like things which usually require replacing the battery all the time. But do you think solar-powered products have a bigger future? Will we have a bunch of solar-powered products, or will most of our products still be plugged into the wall, which will connect to solar, wind, biofuels, and other green energies?

This is an interesting idea. Solar is definitely on the rise-and I think it is a great alternative to plugging in electronics, etc because they are usually huge energy suckers. You can now get Ipod chargers and even lighters that run on solar. I'd say I'd prefer solar over any other type of product....
