Although it does have its problems, I actually like the idea. One of the greatest problems that nonprofits have is an unsteady source of income. So, the idea of using a percentage of the profits from a for-profit sector to fund a non-profit is sometimes one of the smartest things that nonprofits can do to keep doing what they do.

On the other hand, I could see how people could delude themselves into thinking they are doing more than they are. This is human nature. Obviously, people could be donating directly to the causes that they like and then buying whichever cell phones they really want, without someone making a profit off using the name of a nonprofit. But even so, if the profit margin is large enough, people end donating more because they actually get something in return each time.

Obviously, much more should be done for the environment in general, some of which can only be tackled through government policy, not consumer action. But, in the short-run, voting with your dollar is perhaps an intermediate step before the issues become popular enough so that we can effectively vote with electoral votes.
