I don't know if any of you guys have heard, but in July a new company is coming out with green computers. They use 2 watts of energy perform up to par with a $3000 mac. They're being made by a company based out of California called CherryPal and they're about the price of an ipod.

If anyone is interested I will actually be helping them get the word out so you can let me know if you'd be interested in one of these.

I'll be personally getting one of them very soon so you can feel free to ask me my opinion on it if you'd like.

Yes Yes Yes! Fill me in! Is there a link with information? I can not seem to find anything...

If they are as good as they sound-getting the word out will be very important! (as most people are guilty of spending too much time and using too much energy with computers).

This is great. Thank you.

The press release for it actually just came out yesterday. They're very low priced but very high performance. They'll be coming out for the first time on July 4th, and I will personally be receiving one to try out from CherryPal.

If you're still interested in one I'll have a code for you to get 10% off in a week or two

I did some googleing and found a couple of articles called CherryPal: A Two Watt Computer the Size of a Paperback
and CherryPal to Launch Two-Watt PC Using Freescale Processor Based on Power Architecture Technology

CherryPal computers use cloud computing which relies on applications that run on an online server. I think this allows the computer to be smaller and cheaper, but I wonder whether it limits use. A computer requiring internet access (and I would guess fairly high speed and constant internet access although I do not really know) could not be used by people who could not afford internet or in places without good access.
Which does not mean that a computer like this would not work very well for lots of people.

All of this is definitely true, however the CherryPal computer actually has WiFi, so even in areas with poor connection or those with slower connections could still use it.

I will admit that it is obviously not the full performance of a traditional desktop or laptop, however it's an entirely different machine. The purpose is to run on low energy and to perform that tasks that the majority of people use a computer for, rather than for large games or other things like that.

Like you said, it's not without its flaws, and I'll be sure to let you all know how it is once I get mine within the next week or so.

Sounds cool.
Yeah I don't need a fancy computer, just something I can write on and check email.
I'll be sure to check this out once it is released.
What does it mean that the computer has WIFI? Wouldn't I still need to use it in a place with WIFI available?
