Wow that looks sweet!
I love how they are used both here to conserve electricity and gas and in developing countries to conserve cooking fuel.
I wonder though, how long does it take to cook a meal?- so many people view cooking as inconvenient as it is. And do you have to take it outside?
It looks cool though, for people living in sunny climates.

I think the videos on the site talk about how long it takes to cook.

Generally, if you are using something like this, you will need to change your fast food expectations.

This type of cooking is a prime example of "slow food". It's more like crock pot cooking than microwave...if you know what i mean.

While the solar oven can be used anywhere in the world, it is a real solution for women and children in areas where fuel for cooking is scarce.
With the solar oven, they can then afford to save cooking fuel for heating or for seasonal periods when solar cooking is not the best solution.

Luckily, nobody can tax you on the use of solar energy!

It seems like these are a great idea for developing nations. But I think they are pretty practical for people in the United States as well. I was with some people who used a solar oven like this over the summer. We baked a casserole in it, and it turned out just fine. It took around 4 hours, and we didn't cook any meat in it, so it could take longer or shorter depending on what you're baking. The woman who owned it said that she used it all the time, and said it was especially nice in the hot summers if she wanted to bake something, because it didn't heat up her house.

It's neat that they are mobile as well. I have heard of people with pick-up trucks going on a day trip and taking their solar oven along. They just leave it in the back of the truck to bake, and then, by the time they are ready to eat it, they have a really awesome picnic meal.
