Fueled by oil money, the world's first zero-carbon city has begun construction in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and should be completed within five to 10 years. Called Masdar, this city will make use of the region's abundant sun, with the world's largest solar farm already built to power the city. I, for one, really appreciate the contrast between construction projects like this and the wasteful artificial Palm Islands in Dubai. Sometimes for environmental good, sometimes for ill, a number of fascinating projects are underway in the UAE.
