Wow I thought that article was super interesting.
It seems that basically the issue is how should we as a global community allocate resources. Should we pursue policies that direct extra resources toward energy, or toward food? And if toward food which kinds of food? Toward growing rice, or vegetables, or corn to feed livestock? Obviously a successful society needs all these components of food and fuel in balance. This article discusses what happens when we fail to achieve this balance through policy decisions.

If you thought that was interesting check out this link. It has information about all aspects of biofuel, including pressing your own oil (no kidding)!

This article is about Biofuels - Food or Fuel?

If you want to convert your car to run on french fry oil (any kind of used cooking oil) then check out Mike Pelly's recipe.

I like the idea of growing sunflowers and pressing them into oil- probably too complicated of a project for me to take on now- but I'll keep it in mind for sometime when I'm growing hundreds of sunflowers....
It looks neat.

As for using left over French-fry oil for fuel one of my friends plans on traveling the country with a car running on left-over oil like that. I had no idea it was so complicated to turn the leftover oil into fuel- but I think it's awesome that she's willing to take on a project like that.

One thing to keep in mind, too, is that a lot of restaurants are willing to donate their scraps for biofuel.....
